The song is called “Little Man” and admittedly, I wrote it several years back when my kids were much younger. I was struggling with living up to whatever standard I had in my mind at the time for being a good parent. So I wrote a song with characaters who were less capable parents than I was to try to feel better about myself. I decided to record and release this song now because my son is headed off to college this week and has turned out to be a fantastic adult human being. While I can't take all of the credit, by any means, it puts my mind at ease to know that I might have done a better job than I was giving myself credit for years ago. I hope you enjoy and I hope that this song inspires some faith in you to overcome self-doubt and know that you are doing the best that you can under the circumstances that you are in!

Lyrics

Rub my eyes as I rise from bed and
Try to find where my memory ends cause
I can't recall
The night before
Step between where bodies lie cause
This is where Sundays go to die and
Spend the day
Laying on the floor

Little man don't grow up to be
a deadbeat just like me
Do like your mama said
and don't end up like your old man
Little man don't grow up to be
a deadbeat just like me
Do like your mama said
and don't end up like your old man

Wake with someone by my side and
Hope they had a real good time cause
When you call
I'll just ignore
Grab my pants skirt and rub my neck do
One last check for my self respect and
Walk with shame
Out the door

Little girl don't grow up to be
a floozy just like me
Do like your daddy said
and don't you run around with men
Little girl don't grow up to be
a floozy just like me
Do like your daddy said
and don't you, don't you, don't don't don't you

Yeah

Little man don't grow up to be
a deadbeat just like me
Do like your mama said
and don't end up like your old man
Little man don't grow up to be
a deadbeat just like me
Do like your mama said
and don't end up like your old man

Little girl don't grow up to be
to be just like me
Do like your daddy said
and don't you run around with men
Little girl don't grow up to be
a floozy just like me
Do like your daddy said
and don't you, don't you, don't don't don't you
don't you, don't, don't don't don't don't you
don't you don't
